Dropping the Drama by Dropping your Buttons
by Laura Bonilla
Spiritual Coaching and Hypnotherapy
Are you tired of all the drama in your life? Do you realize most of it is self created?
I’m talking about your reactions to people and events. You may not be able to control
all experiences in life, but you certainly control how you respond or react to each
experience. For a more peaceful, you may want to consider how is that you react to
every experience, to the most minute event in your life.
Lots of the drama you are creating is through your buttons. Do people ‘push your buttons’?
Stop to think for a moment. Whose buttons are these, other than yours? Why would you
allow anyone to push your buttons? They are yours, and frankly, why do you keep them?
Get rid of your buttons. I don’t think they’re enhancing your experience of life in a positive way.
Here are a few things you can do to drop your buttons:
1. You need to know what buttons you have. To identify each button start by observing your
reactions. Break them down into the different buttons. For example, you may have the angry
button, the jealousy button, the fear button. Just observe what button gets pushed, by whom,
and in what situations.
2. Take a button at a time, if you want. Work with that specific button. Let’s say you choose
to release the ‘angry’ button first. Now you know who pushes it and when. It may be situations
and not people. Notice this as well.
3. You need to become very present every moment of the day, as you now have made the decision
to release a button. You can’t operate on automatic pilot anymore.
4. You know just a fraction of a second before it gets pushed that it is about to be pushed.
If you are really present, you don’t allow it to happen by staying detached from the experience,
observing the other’s behavior or witnessing the experience. Just stay detached but present,
calm and peaceful. Mentally saying, “that is interesting” is a good way to remain detached.
Stop reacting and start responding with Love and understanding. This will transform your life.
Choose a peaceful and harmonious life. Choose to be happy!
